Naming the emotion quiets the alarm center and switches on the thinking part of the brain. Do that a few thousand times over a childhood, and you’ve built the wiring he’ll use at 35 to say “I’m not okay” instead of going silent. Boys tend to get less of this. Not on purpose necessarily- but research shows we just naturally use fewer feeling words with sons than daughters. So we let him be sad, or frustrated or angry. We name it and we work through it together. That’s co-regulation. Have you tried this?🫶🏻🩵
